New twist as Choo boss sues mo

Byline: Richard Kay

AMULTI-million-pound lawsuit that carved a bitter rift between stiletto queen Tamara Mellon and her estranged mother has been mysteriously dropped, I can reveal.

The glamorous boss of the Jimmy Choo shoe empire, along with her young daughter, had been trying to sue her mother, former Chanel model Ann Yeardye, for more than [pounds sterling]6 million.

The lawsuit shattered the image of one of the fashion world's most influential families when it was filed in the California Superior Court last year.

Mother and daughter fell out when Jimmy tag heuer replica Choo was sold in 2004 and Tamara claimed her mother had refused to hand over shares in the company which had been awarded to her by mistake. The two women have not spoken since.

Last night, representatives of Miss Mellon were not prepared to discuss the move, but I understand a second claim lodged by the businesswoman against her mother is going ahead in the Channel Islands.

A court in Jersey is due to hear the case in November. 'By no means is Tamara backing down. The case in Jersey has always been more important, while the LA action was about rattling cages,' I am told.

Both women held an interest in the firm at the time of its sale, and the sale price included cash and shares.

Mrs Yeardye had insisted she received her stake in the hugely successful company in cash rather than shares, which meant her 42-yearold daughter would take her half of the company mostly in stocks.

The deal caused confusion, and half of Mellon's stocks actually ended up being given to her mother.

In an attempt to break the deadlock without litigation, Tamara offered to put her mother's shares in a separate trust for her daughter, Araminta.

That, too, say Tamara's lawyers, Ann refused. The shares have since been sold for [pounds sterling]4 million and are now held in a frozen bank account.

Court documents in LA show a request for dismissal was first filed in February. They show that a 'final status conference' was held in June where it was decided the case would be dropped.

Neither Miss Mellon nor her mother attended the hearing.
