THE mother of a little boy whose birthday was ruined after his presents were stolen has thanked the police for retrieving the items.
Brass BangleSharon McClements bought birthday presents, party equipment and a school uniform totalling Pounds 250 for her son Alexander, right, who turned five nearly two weeks ago, but accidentally left the shopping on a bus. Following her efforts to locate the goods, a CityBus employee said the items had probably been stolen. Sharon, aged 35, a full-time mum, said she could not hold a birthday party or even a barbeque because she had to buy a new uniform for Alexander, who started school last week.
Replica D&GSharon said Alexander's Clarks school shoes and some of his birthday presents, including a toy laptop, were retrieved by police on Friday. Sharon, from Barne Barton, said: "Alexander is wearing his school shoes today and telling everyone that the policeman found the nasty lady." She thanked investigating officer Pc Andy Hall and said: "He was adamant that he was going to sort it out and he did."
She also thanked her neighbour, Sarah Harris, for replacing Alexander's toy spider that was stolen.
Sharon also thanked a Herald reader for offering Alexander a spare school jumper.
A police spokesman said officers had confronted the female thief, who had produced the goods and broken down.
