POLICE think one man could be responsible for snatching handbags from seven elderly women in Nuneaton's Brochures Printing town centre over the past two weeks.
All the muggings happened in Abbey Street. Officers have released an e-fit and a close circuit television camera image of the man they believe is responsible.
On Tuesday night last week two women were robbed in the space of 20 minutes near Lexington Court. There was a third snatch near the flats on Thursday night.
Four other women have been mugged in the same area. One was dragged to the ground as she fought to hold on to her bag.
Police said the victims were aged between 50 and 84 and were attacked between 2pm and 7pm.
Det Con Andy Denny warned: "We don't want to put people off from walking in the town, but people, pensioners in particular, need to be aware of what is happening.
"If you have to carry a large amount of money for some reason, Juicy Couture Jewellery then we advise people to take an escort."
Several descriptions are of a white man in his 20s and of medium build. On one occasion he was wearing a beige jacket, blue jeans and dirty white trainers.
Two bags and some of the items they contained have been recovered from bushes outside the flats.
Det Con Denny, added: "It is very important that we find the man carrying out these attacks and we need the help of the public.
"None of the victims has been seriously hurt, they have all been badly shaken. That is not to say that the attacks won't become more serious.
"We want anyone with information or who thinks they may recognise the man to come
embroidered patches forward."
